Born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I grew up in South Central and schooled in 'The Valley'. Always tagging along with my late brother, Jack, I was constantly exposed to art and music of all kinds. We toured around our city, always spotting our favorite graffiti artists off of reflections of the LA skyscrapers' and in the smallest overpass crevices. We also loved attending fine art exhibits at our local museums such as LACMA, MOCA and The Getty.
Artistically inclined since a young child, I would get in trouble for sketching instead of doing my classwork. One day, my 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Kenny, decided to submit my name into a gifted arts program at CalState LA. A program you can only enter by recommendation and then having your name drawn amidst hundreds of other hopeful children. I attended the program for 3 years, but grew bored of the curriculum and quit, much to my mother's disappointment. I continued to be artistically inclined and learned at my own cadence. Further down the LAUSD line, in high school, I was inspired once again by my ceramics teacher, Mr. Hull. He saw my interest in throwing pottery and took me under his wing to help me harness and nourish that growing hunger to learn more. I was taught a lot of advanced techniques and even ended up buying a kick wheel to throw at home. I will forever be grateful to those teachers who took that extra step to water this budding seedling.
After high school, I fell into the monotony of the 9 to 5 and fell into a long artistic block. My old artistic self would rear his head here and there, but always resulted in unfinished pieces that ended buried in the graveyard that I called my closet. Thanks to my supportive wife, Brigitte, for always nudging me and becoming my muse, I have found my inner child and I have re-invigorated my longing to create art again, consistently. After an unsavory work environment in 2021 and my wife's amazing support, I decided to leave my day job and pursue my art, full-time in 2022.
Now, I push forward through my brand, Therdeye, a crew that my brother started many, many years ago, a few years before he passed in 2008. He was always my inspiration and my greatest support. Losing him has left an immeasurable hole in my soul, but I continue to cast his light thru Therdeye and hope to inspire people to see beauty in all forms of artistic expressions.
